British online retailer Argos is running a Christmas advertising campaign featuring five eight-foot-tall neon yetis, skating through the streets of a snowy town on ice-skates to deliver Christmas goods at extraordinary speed. The Argos Christmas Yetis are played by British figure skating champion Peter Hallam (orange), ice skaters George Southall (blue) and Adrian Jack (pink), and professional ice hockey players Brad Slade (green) and Kevin McGlynn (purple). The focus on speed, adrenaline and excitement follows on from the extreme snowboarding and skiing featured in the 2016 Just Can’t Wait for Christmas commercial, reflecting the speed of Argos’ same day Fast Track Delivery and Fast Track Collection services. Based on the folklore that yetis move twice as fast as the average human, the Argos yetis leap and carve round corners like lightning on their skates – collecting, playing with and delivering Argos’ top products as they go, from Beats headphones, Virtual Reality headsets and Dyson vacuum cleaners to Fitbit, GoPro and Furby products.

The Argos Christmas Yetis campaign is supported by print, video-on-demand, paid digital, social content and appearances of the Yetis in public (#SpottedAYeti) in a bid to fast track the anticipation and excitement of Christmas for Britons with an in-store social competition.

The commercial is set to the music track, “What’s This?”, composed by Danny Elfman for Tim Burton’s 1993 film “The Nightmare Before Christmas”, performed by Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
